2019 Sculling Camps

Beautiful weather and beautiful water! Relax while you learn on 3000 meters of flat water in the Valley of the Sun! Small group instruction in single sculls is offered for all skill levels, beginner to competitive, with two, on-water sessions and daily video review. (Practice in doubles and quads may be available upon request.) 2019 clinics will be held from January 31 through March 2. Come experience the best-kept secret in the desert: rowing!

Salt River Sculling Clinic - Intro to Sculling

January 31 - February 3


This course will focus on technique for the beginning to intermediate sculler.

"Essentials of Sculling & Yoga" with Dan Boyne

February 7 - 10


What better pairing is there than sculling and yoga? And who better to teach it than Dan Boyne, author of "Essential Sculling", Director of Recreational Rowing at Harvard, and yoga and meditation instructor?

Salt River Sculling Clinic with Liz Jones

February 15 - 18


Liz Jones is a rowing coach who currently hails from Donnelly, ID. In Idaho, where she conducts the annual Donnelly Rowing Clinic. Prior to coaching in Idaho, she worked at Three Rivers Rowing in Pittsburgh, where she taught all ages and experience levels. She has also been an instructor at Craftsbury Outdoor Center, Florida Rowing Center, and Rocky Mountain Rowing Center. No slouch in a shell, as a competitor, Liz has 20 US and Canadian Sculling National Championships to her credit.

This four-day clinic is designed for rowers with two years or more of sculling experience.

Salt River Sculling & Sweep Racing Clinic with Lesleh Wright

February 27 - March 3


You are in for a special treat when you row with Lesleh! Be prepared to work hard and see results with this coxswain-turned-coach. Lesleh, a former Canadian National Team coxswain, is one of the founders and coaches of Chinook Performance Racing. In these four days with Lesleh you will learn how to find that extra edge and turn up your competitive fire. You will also get to practice your new skill - this clinic includes entries in the Desert Sprints Regatta on March 3!

The basic schedule for clinics is as follows, subject to change, of course:

  • Thursday row 2:30-4:30
  • Friday row 8-10, followed by video review and lunch 10-12, row 12:30-2:30
  • Saturday same as Friday,
  • Sunday 10-12
