Advanced Sculling Camp - Kevin MacDermott

This is an advanced sculling camp that may include sweeping if scheduling allows. This camp is designed for rowers who already have advanced skills and want to focus on refining the techniques needed for advanced or competitive rowing. Campers in this clinic should have rowed consistently for at least two years, have competent steering (including toe-steer) and boat handling skills and be able to row safely without constant supervision. They must also be able to launch and recover their boat independently and, if they flip, either re-enter the boat or swim it to shore. Registrants should also have the fitness to maintain high stroke ratings for at least six minutes. Though not a requirement, campers in this clinic ideally should be able to comfortably row about a 5-minute 1K on the water.

Kevin has been a coach at Craftsbury Rowing Center in Vermont since 2002 and is now associate director of the program. He has been head coach of Men’s Rowing at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, since 2009, and was recently named interim director of rowing. He was head coach for the US Junior National Team in 2010-2011. Kevin learned to scull at The Haverford School and went on to row at Wesleyan University as an undergraduate.
