Intro to Rowing

For people who have never rowed on the water, start here! This class meets two days (four hours each day) and is designed to provide you with the basic understanding and skills of rowing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • You must complete and submit a float test prior to your first session. Many city pools (such as Tempe’s Kiwanis Recreation Center) and private gyms (such as Lifetime Fitness) will administer float tests. Email your completed test form to KimC@rowrio.org or bring it with you to the first session. No one is allowed in a boat without a float test, and Rio cannot offer refunds if you arrive without one.
  • You must also be able to
    • Lift 20-25 pounds and carry it on one shoulder while walking for 5 minutes
    • Complete a full squat, down and up
    • Bend over and touch your hands to your knees or lower
    • Walk up and down one flight of stairs without using the handrail

COVID-19
Rio’s COVID-19 policy currently makes masks optional for fully vaccinated rowers.
